What people in Cuttack are saying

1 neighbours have shared what matters to them — in their own words.

“Gender is linked with the environment because both men and women associate with the environment in different ways. Mostly in rural areas women are responsible for collecting water, cooking food, etc., which means environmental problems affect them faster and they are more aware of its changes. But men on the other hand are mainly associated with activities like agriculture, industry, etc. which also shapes the environment in a significant way. Gender roles influence how people engage with natural resources and respond to environmental changes. Therefore, environment is linked with gender as they affect people differently based on their social roles and responsibilities.”

What the community is telling us🌤️ Mixed

In your area, it's evident that gender roles significantly shape environmental engagement, with women often bearing the brunt of environmental degradation due to responsibilities like water collection and food preparation, making them more acutely aware of changes 💧. Men's association with agriculture and industry also profoundly impacts the environment, highlighting the need for gender-sensitive environmental policies. 🌳👩‍🌾

    What could help
📝Develop gender-sensitive environmental policies that acknowledge and address the distinct ways men and women interact with and are affected by the environment.
💪Support initiatives that empower women in rural areas, recognizing their unique knowledge and vulnerability to environmental changes, and integrate their perspectives into environmental planning.
📊Promote research and data collection on gender-differentiated environmental impacts to inform more equitable and effective environmental management strategies.
